Calm, Cool, and Collected

CALM

Strong Coffey was in charge of postgame festivities and decided shake it up and host a pregame.  The action started before we even hit the field.  While the kids were playing, a minor ended up with a major injury.  Dr. Phil raced to the scene faster than he gets to home plate, cleaned the blood and calmed the kids (and parents).

COOL

We had the late game and the Cougars, as Cougar Nation knows, we have struggled at 8:45pm.  Philthy, once again, played it cool and started hot.

First Inning

Martini walked to start us off.  Joker singled pushing Martini to third.  Philthy, the cool cat, singled home our first run at the night.

We held ONG scoreless.

Cougars winning 1-0.

Second Inning

Pastor Ted singled over the shortstop’s head and Jimmy doubled down the right field line scoring Teddy all the way from first.  Nick Jr. hit a line shot past the second baseman scoring Jimmy.

Old Neighborhood Grill touched home plate twice.

Cougars 3 ONG 2.

Third Inning

Cougars went down 1-2-3.

ONG plated a run but was stopped from scoring more because of a great Martini to Li’l Rads headfake pickoff play.

3-3 All tied up.

Fourth Inning

Philthy, not cooling his heels, led us off with a single.  Bobi followed suit.  Li’l Rads walked to load ‘em up.  Baby Kale came to the plate and smacked a grand slam over the outfielder’s head.

Nothing for ONG because of excellent defense and a Jumpin’ Jimmy double play at short center.

7-3 Cougars

Fifth Inning

Tiny Rads led off with a single to left field.  Martini came to the plate and called a hit and run.  As soon as the pitcher released the high arc, Tiny Rads took off.  Martini shot a single to right field scoring a speedy Tiny Rads.

JD then ripped a single to center and Martini circled the bases safely drawing a throw to the plate and allowing JD to get to third.  Joker doubled down the left field line scoring JD.  Dr. Phil should have been wearing a leather jacket like the Fonz because got his third hit of the night to go a perfect 3-3 at the plate.

One hit no runs for our opponent.

10-3 Cougars

Sixth Inning

Li’l Rads led off with a single to left.  Pastor Ted chopped a ball to the right side but was called out on a close play at first while moving Lil Rads to second.  Jimmy hit a ball that landed on the right field foul line for a single scoring Lil Rads.

No dice for ONG.

11-3 Cougars

Seventh Inning

Martini got a hit and stole second but we did not drive him in.

Nothing for ONG in the bottom of the inning.

COLLECTED

With an 11-3 victory, the Cougars collected a win to bring the season record to 4-5.

Oh, I recollect a 50th birthday party bash exactly six years ago for Dr. Phil.  We always win on Philthy's birthday!

Philthy is collecting years but not collecting dust!

Coming of Age

When you are younger, you want to be older.  When you are older, you want to be younger.

In 1992, a month into his 17th year, Li’l Rads wanted to be 21 so he could go to Vegas for some wagering excitement.

His brother, Rads, came to the rescue...and Marc ended up in a police lineup.

On Tuesday, Tiny Rads, halfway through his 15th year, wanted to be 18 so he could play on the Cougars for some softball excitement.

His father, Rads, came to the rescue...and Charley ended up in the starting lineup.

While Charley isn’t of age to drive a car yet, he’s always been able to drive a ball.

In fact, he has been practicing to become a Cougar for quite some time.

Charley with his first homemade Cougar jersey and green hair!

First Inning

Rads got on base but didn’t make it past first.

Gulliver’s pushed one across the plate.

Gulliver’s 1  Cougars 0

Second Inning

Strong Coffey jumpstarted our offense with a single and Li’l Rads followed suit.  Bobi hit a shot up the middle for an RBI.  Li’l Rads scored on a throwing error and Bobi moved to third.  Baby Kale got a big man line drive to left center and plated Bobi.  Flandog moved Baby Kale to second.  Jimmy sliced a liner to right center scoring Baby Kale.  Cougars score four.

Cougars up 4-1.

Third Inning

Nothing for Gulliver’s.

Martini had a hit but we could not get him home.

Fourth Inning

Li’l Rads beat out a hard grounder in the hole at short and moved to second on an overthrow.  Bobi took a walk.  Baby Kale mirrored his last line drive and scored Li’l Rads moving Bobi to two.  Flandog’s bulging biceps pummeled a double to left center scoring Bobi and moving Li’l Rads to third.  Pastor Ted hit a perfectly placed ball to the right side scoring Li’l Rads and moving Flandog to third.  Jimmy hit his soon to be patented right center line drive scoring Flandog.  Tiny Rads then bashed the ball to left field for his first Cougar hit moving Jimmy to second base.  Rads copied Tiny Rads and bashed the same kind of ball scoring Jimmy with the speedy Tiny Rads moving to third.  Cougars score five.

Gulliver’s got another.

Cougars 9-2.

Fifth Inning

One for Gulliver’s and none for us.

Cougars up by 6.

Sixth Inning

Baby Kale continued his perfect night with his third hit but we left him stranded.

Seventh Inning

Both teams with zeros and the end the game as heroes with a 9-3 victory.

With Tiny Rads on the diamond, the Cougars go from overage underachievers to underage overachievers.
