I know, I know, you are asking, “Where was last week’s game update?!?” Let’s just say the weak effort pushed the blog
back a week.
So it is a blog doubleheader! Two for one! Or is it half off? Let's see...
Last week, we played Gulliver’s and lost 11-2. It was an eminently forgettable game but we need to document the good and the
bad.
In the loss there were some nice performances. Danielsen and Radtke (the one who drives a couple
hours round trip for each game) accounted for our two runs. Lipsey, Boomgaarden and Kirchberg each grabbed a
couple of hits. Bobis, Flannery and
Lipinski also added hits but we could not string them together consecutively. The always high charged battery of Radtke (the
one who walks across the street for each game) and McDonnell along with our
defense actually played quite well but our opponent slowly drained us and never
scored more than two runs in an inning.
The postgame was certainly not forgettable. It was the Bobis afterparty that helped us
gain momentum into last night’s game.
In the game last night, we played the Tappers. This is one of a handful of games on the calendar
each year that are circled.
Unlike last week, our offensive output last night was fast
and furious in the first.
We started ten players and all ten strung together hard hit
balls for nine runs in the first inning.
Boom, Fort, Rads, Martini, JD, Joker, Philthy, Bobi, Pastor Ted, and
Hoags all scolded the sphere.
Our leader, Bobis, is our very own Coach Q! |
When we got back to the top of the order in the first inning the
Tappers put us down 1-2-3. Over the next
four innings, the Tappers put us down 1-2-3 in three of them. In the sixth, our first four batters again
crushed the ball and all scored.
Cougars win 13-2.
We had the late game last night so we played under the stars
and with some stars.
This year we have missed a few players due to other commitments. One, of course, is our man Hoglund. We needed a sub for Dan who would bring an A
game. Well, we found one that brought a
couple of A’s. We got a Hoagland. John has been a fixture on the Friday night
14” league, and he came out for his first Tuesday 16” game and was 2 for 3 with
some sweet plays in left field.
Another star was our man Pastor Ted. He preaches on Sundays to keep his congregation
safe from the inferno and he does the same on Tuesdays keeping the Cougars out
of trouble at the hot corner.
Speaking of professions, Lipsey holds two jobs. He is a realtor and a comedian. He did not bring either skill to the field
last night because he was not joking around as he went 3 for 3 and destroyed the
real estate at Howard Park.
Martini drove like a bat out of hell from a client in
Cleveland yesterday afternoon and made it to the park right in time for the
game. He walloped a couple of hits, but
really, even if he struck out three times, he would still be our MVP on the
mound. His craftiness and accuracy on
the hill stopped our opponent in their tracks, literally, with a pickoff and a
diving tag of an advancing baserunner.
Philthy was a hero on the field but, really, he was an
all-star at the postgame. Meg and Phil kept
the rally going by hosting the Cougars to some competitive eating. We also celebrated the good doctor’s birthday
with good cheer.
Keep it up boys - next twosday is a real doubleheader!
