For the
Cougar Nation, there are three events for which we eagerly wait about nine
months.
Our
softball season ends every August and we must wait to get back on the dirt and
grass in late April.
Every
August, many of the Cougars are dropping their kids off at college and bringing
them back home about nine months later.
And some
Cougars are adding to the Nation. After
nine months of anxious anticipation, Molly, Kale, and Camille welcomed beautiful
Raleigh Belle into the world yesterday morning.
Congratulations!
About 12
hours after the miracle of little Raleigh came another miracle for which the
Cougars have been waiting 11 years.
We have lost
to five-time defending champion Miller Time at least 16 times over the last
decade plus. So while we would push for
a victory, it was not what we were expecting.
Read all about our labor.
First
Inning
Rads
led off with a single followed by a Martini walk. JD crushed the first
pitch and singled to score Rads and put Martini on third. Strong Coffey
got an RBI by punching the ball down and hard. Bobi followed with a
single but no more runs.
The
leadoff hitter for Miller Time singled and eventually scored.
Cougars 2-1.
Second Inning
Li'l
Rads and Pastor Ted started us off with back-to-back singles. Lip had a
hit to right center but good defense got Pastor Ted at two and Li'l Rads made
it to third. Rads singled to score Li'l Rads and move Lip to second.
Martini walked again to load the bases. Strong Coffey came up and got
three more ribbies by hitting a ground shot to third scoring Lip. The
subsequent bobbled catch and errant throw by the fielders saw Rads slide home
safely with Martini right behind sneaking home as well. The Joker singled
to move Strong Coffey to third and Bobi smacked a hit for a RBI. Boom’s arm was sore from waving us in at
third and Diamond Dave almost ran out of ink from coloring the runs in the scorebook.
Miller
got one hit.
Cougars 7-1.
Third Inning
We
took a break from scoring and went down 1-2-3.
So
did Miller Time.
Cougars 7-1.
Fourth Inning
Rads
led off with a single. Then with two outs, Strong Coffey came to the
plate and pummeled a single. First and second and the Joker hit a liner
scoring Rads.
Miller
had a single.
Cougars 8-1.
Fifth Inning
Old
and tired, we needed a rest and went down 1-2-3.
Miller
had a few hits but only scored two.
Cougars 8-3.
Sixth Inning
Another
quick 1-2-3 inning for the Cougars.
Martini's
spot on pitching to Philthy behind the plate as well as our stellar defense limited Miller to just one hit.
Cougars 8-3.
Seventh Inning
Coffey
remained strong with a double over the left fielder's head but we could not get
him home.
Miller
Time had a small rally and scored two.
Cougars victorious 8-5!
While Molly
and Kale may have read What to Expect
When You’re Expecting during the offseason, the team decided to perform
a miracle which we all least expected - Cougar men birthing a victory against
Miller Time for the first time in our history!
