Cougars: Hardball or Softball?

Losing a doubleheader. That’s hard.

Scoring four runs in 14 innings. That’s hard.

Record drops below .500. That’s hard.

Why is it called softball when it can be so hard?

Yes, the Cougars had a difficult night Tuesday. We lost 11-3 to the Tappers and 9-1 to Miller Time. It was tough to find and maintain our mojo.

When we did find some magic, it was pure excitement.

Li'l Rads was a big man at the plate showing off his softball skills for his girls, Brittany and Kayla. He got on base almost every at bat and drove in an RBI and scored a run.

Pastor Ted didn’t have any family at the game, so we need to let them know that his huge hitting was responsible for half our runs.

Kale and Boom tracked down deep towering fly balls with ease.

Coffey was strong at the plate and played a flawless third base.

Bobi effortlessly pivoted his first ever double play at shortcenter.

Diamond Dave’s hitting precision continues to amaze (and he hosted a superb poker game during our rainout last week!).

The Flandog family treated the team to a phenomenal postgame.

That’s more like it!

The highlight of the night was a Philthy play at the plate. The opposing runner on first tries to score on the batter’s hit to the outfield. Boom chucks it to Fort and he fires it to Philthy to make the tag for the third out.

Turn up the volume and after the celebration you’ll hear Dr. Phil walking off the field and say, “That’s softball!”

So here’s the part of the blog where I get a little cheesy and say that our 16” team is a metaphor for life for me. When it’s tough and you’re 0 for 6 and it seems like hardball, it’s still softball. When it’s wonderfully amazing and the throw makes it just in time to get the out at home, that’s also softball. Through the highs and lows that are life and softball, I’m always glad to have my Cougar brothers and Cougar Nation there.
