Our first friendships as
children are defined by proximity and age. Our friends were primarily
neighborhood kids and classmates about our age. We didn’t have a care in
the world and just wanted to play long after the streetlights came on.
In our teenage years,
proximity and age were present but we began to look for friends who had similar
interests to us. Friends who dressed like us and enjoyed the same activities.
As young adults, we
scattered to different jobs or universities. After a few years we found
ourselves working many hours at our profession and developed a built-in group
of friends as we climbed the ladder and possibly partied too much.
Moving into the root-growing
years of adulthood, our neighbors are natural friends and we also seek out
those who have similar interests, all while plying a trade and raising a
family. This is our longest life-stage that could begin as early as our
30s and last well into our 60s, which gives us ample time to build and nurture
our relationships.
This is where we are
now.
The Cougars were initially
brought together mainly because of proximity. But we also had a common
interest in 16-inch softball and wanting to play long after the streetlights
came on. Oh, we all wanted to wear green shirts and party too much as
well.
Our glory days are
now.
We play the sport of our
city in order to recreate our youth, build strong friendships in the present
and have memories in the future.
Throughout life, from
preschool to the retirement home, friendship confers health benefits, both
mental and physical.
As our eleventh season comes
to an end, the Cougars are in top condition.
See you next year!
