Cougar Coursework

With Spring Break ahead of us and our first practice scheduled, weather permitting, for the first weekend in April, it is a good time to pass out some homework in preparation for the upcoming season. It is important to note that a failing grade will impact your status on the team.

I. MATH
Using your knowledge of last season as well as the attached spreadsheet as reference, please answer the following questions.
  1. The Misfit Beavers played the Dead Cougars two times last year and in each game the Misfit Beavers scored 12 runs. In one of those games we won and in the other we lost. What did the Dead Cougars do to win the one game?
  2. The Dead Cougars played an average game time of 30 minutes. Our postgame parties lasted an average of 2 hours. This equates to a postgame to game time ratio of 4:1. Keeping the postgame time as the constant, what can the we do in order to decrease this ratio?
  3. The Dead Cougars averaged 1.75 at-bats per person each game. Name two things the we can do in order to increase the per person at-bats each game.
  4. The attached spreadsheet is an analysis of all 70 games recorded on Tuesday nights for the men's league at Howard Park in 2008. Based on this data set, in order to win 82% of games, how many runs would a team need to score in a game?
  5. Does our team need to score more runs or less runs in 2009?
II. SCIENCE

  3. How many bats with a weight equal to or greater than 32oz. did your captain purchase in the offseason? The over/under is 4. (Hint: Always take the over with me).
  4. What is the heaviest bat the team now possesses? (Hint: It is 10oz heavier than the bat the team primarily used in 2008).
  5. Are Stan Natonek and I now friends? (Hint: We now have two of the greatest baseball names, Joe D. and Stan the Man, as team consultants).
III. ENGLISH
Using the first portion of the following article as a tool, please answer the following question.
  1. What will the Dead Cougars team name be in 2009?
IV. PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Although the degree to which these questions can be answered may vary, the answers themselves should be unanimous.
